Year 7 'Through the Archives' University of Sussex Trip
On Thursday 27 of February, 15 year 7 students set off out in the blistering wind, rain and cold to the University of Sussex - accompanied by Miss Jewell and Mr Richardson. There, in Arts Building B, the year 7 students participated in part 2 of a 3 part workshop as part of the Beyond the Archive project. The workshop saw the students delve into their artistic sides with a venture into print making. Using their own original drawings - inspired by their previous trip to the keep to look at archives from the Victorian Era - the students traced, carved, and printed their very own original lino prints! Every single student's piece of work turned out beautifully and will be displayed at the Jubilee library in June as part of a bigger exhibition.
The students were lucky enough to be lead in their workshop by Peter Smith, who had travelled down from London to impart his wisdom, skill, and humour on the students. He was very patient with them all, and helped guide them to some wonderful creations!
All of the year 7s were very focused, hard working, and most importantly, proud of what they had achieved. Each print was a success and the entire day went of without a hitch! Only positive things can be said about the day.
The year 7s ended their workshop by redrafting some creative stories and poems they had worked on previously with the researchers at the University of Sussex, before strolling back to BACA for afternoon lessons - this time the sun was out!
