Year 8 BACA students win round one of the IET Faraday challenge with their go-kart!
In early February, a group of six students were invited to participate in the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Faraday Challenge at UTC@harbourside in Newhaven. The team comprised of two students from Science, two from Design and Technology, and two from Maths. The theme for this year’s challenge was to create an attraction for the well-known theme park Thorpe Park.
Students designed a self driving go-kart for two people that directs itself around a maze. The prototype was a success and the model was very impressive due to it's speed and responsiveness. Due to their fantastic design and creative initiative, the year 8 students were awarded with the trophy and an Amazon voucher each.
The top five teams across the UK will get an all-expenses paid trip to the National Final in July to compete for a cash prize of up to £1,000 for their school to spend on STEM activities. The trophy is proudly displayed in the school’s trophy cabinet in reception, and we are hopeful that we will get to the finals in July.
