The Unlock Programme
Some of our Year 10 students had a different experience to the normal school day last week. We were privileged to be host to the Unlock Programme (see below), which looks to support students in unlocking their potential and to allow them to flourish in their future career choices.
Last Friday, the day started with an inspirational whole year group assembly followed by workshops for 12 selected students. We saw students go through the programme of workshops and come out of the day standing taller, being more confident and more able to express themselves and their opinions clearly. The day was truly transformative and will definitely help a number of our students propel themselves towards their selected career.
Day 2 of the programme saw a trip to London on Tuesday of this week. Students toured the city to meet inspirational business people who have changed their lives and those of young people through unlocking their potential. In January, we invite these business people into BACA to reflect on the project with the 10 students.
The Unlock Programme, targeted at students aged 13–15, bridges these gaps by providing knowledge, skills, support, opportunities and motivation that young people need in order to succeed in today's world.
Unlock is a 4 day programme which is spread over two months. It raises motivation, aspiration, attainment and achievement. It creates unlikely ambassadors of those who are not reaching their full potential and, in turn, enables those students to have an impact on the rest of their peers. Unlock students have delivered over 16,000 hours of training to their peers with close to 100% vastly exceeding academic expectations and all 100% expressing confidence in their future. It’s a “no holds barred” intense roller coaster of an experience, which leaves an indelible impression on students and staff.
