Feedback on our latest Parent/Carer and Student Survey

Following our first ever Virtual Progress Evening this term, we asked parents and students to give us their feedback and complete a survey. Thank you to those who took part. We wanted to share some of the headlines with you. 

Amongst parent feedback, we were pleased to see that a large number of parents are proud to be part of the BACA community; that the academy promotes diversity and equality and that the academy has high expectations of its students. 

The feedback on how the academy has handled the challenging circumstances of COVID19 has been very positive, as has the feedback on whether parents would recommend the academy to another parent. I was also pleased to see that parents feel the academy provides a good standard of education and support for its students and that it is well led and managed, with your children’s teachers knowing them well. Very few parents did not feel that their child is growing in confidence and independence as a learner, or that their child enjoys learning at BACA. 

Although the Virtual Progress Evening event received positive feedback, with parents thankful for the flexibility that this model allows, it is clear that we need to look at how we get better at communicating with parents regarding progress and behaviour on a daily basis. We also need to look at how we make accessing online homework more simple for students and parents at home. 

We really appreciate the comments that parents added to provide more detail to their responses, with a number of great suggestions and some really supportive feedback. We have taken all of this on board and followed up with a number of parents who had particular concerns and queries.

Amongst student feedback, I was delighted to see that our students feel that the academy promotes diversity and equality; they enjoy and are taught well in their lessons and they are confident that they will get good qualifications at BACA. Scores from our students on their tutor knowing them well and caring about their wellbeing and progress; feeling well supported by the academy and its staff and feeling proud to be a BACA student are also encouragingly high. 

It was reflected in the student survey feedback that some year groups are unhappy with how COVID19 has affected their school day. For example, many Y9 and Y10 students prefer having tutor time at the start of the day, rather than at the end and restrictions over where they can go at breaktime can be frustrating. Some students highlighted that they do not agree with all of the school rules regarding uniform. It’s not unusual for students to feel unhappy about rules at school, however this is something that our Junior Leadership Team will help us to review and feed back that we have taken onboard.

In March, we are running our next set of surveys across all Aldridge academies, allowing us to benchmark BACA against other schools. We will provide additional information on how to take part in the survey closer to the time.
