Summer of Learning, Adventure and More
BACA’s brand new Summer programme, SLAM, was a great success this August. With over 80 free places each week for two weeks offered to all our new year 7 students, participants really got to know their way around the academy, meet teachers, make new friends and have some real fun along the way.
Students took part in a number of creative and adventurous activities put together by staff and partner organisations Exploring Senses and Chosen Paths Bushcraft.
Programme strands included;
ImagiNATION, which saw participants creating their very own toys and using basic animation techniques to bring them to life
Zombie Apocalypse group learnt basic survival skills and ancient living techniques to survive a night on school grounds, including fighting off a zombie attack
Water World group developed their natural teamwork and risk-taking skills at Hove Lagoon Water Sports Centre trying out kayaking, paddle boarding and windsurfing
My City team took a trip to The Keep and into Brighton to discover, explore and document special places to visit and hang out in Brighton and Hove.
Each week culminated in an awards event with participants receiving certificates and their first entrepreneurship badges in front of their families and friends;
My daughter has had a fantastic time. Her confidende and general manner has grown 6 months worth in one week here. Thank you.
We plan to make the programme bigger and better next year with more activities and more spaces for new and current students to take part so watch out for SLAM part two.
