Students receive awards at Whole School Assembly

On Tuesday 13 January students received awards for their achievements at the Whole School Assembly.  Whole School Assemblies take place each term to recognise students for their hard work and accomplishments.

The assembly kicked off with a motivational presentation by Principal Davies about using opportunities to make a positive impact to the world around you.  He shared inspiring stories of:

  • Gandy’s – a sustainable social enterprise started by two brothers from London who lost their parents in the Boxing Day Tsunami.  Their business sells flip flops and the proceeds fund children’s homes in India and Sri Lanka to help orphans there.
  • The Bevy – local community members from Moulsecoomb and Bevendean worked hard to reopen this family orientated pub/cafe.  This is a brilliant example of what a group of people can achieve when they work together and set their mind on success.
  • ACA Cricket Tour - three BACA students are going to South Africa in February as part of the Aldridge Cricket Academy tour team.  They have put an impressive amount of effort into fundraising and training for this incredible experience.

The message was clear – if you work hard opportunities will appear.  Principal Davies encouraged all of the students to focus and do they best they can in lessons and as they prepare for exams.

Next on stage was the Junior Leadership Team who reported on their food consultation.  Last term they researched the food service at BACA and compared it with other secondary schools and the University of Sussex. This term they will conduct a survey with all students to find out what they would like to see in the restaurant.

Then the awards began.  Students were welcomed on stage first for entrepreneurial awards.  These awards recognised students who display strength in team work, problem solving, creativity, risk taking, passion or determination.

The platinum awards followed.  These are awarded to the top three students in each house, and in the 6th Form, who show the best attitude to learning.  Students were presented with their certificate but will also receive Vivo points in the student rewards portal.

Presentation of the School Shield was the grand finale and Roddick proudly accepted the shield.  Students in Roddick were congratulated for their impressive attendance last term.

A huge congratulation goes out to all students who won an award!
