Printmaking with the University of Brighton
On Friday, 8 June, a group of eleven Year 10 students were invited by the University of Brighton Outreach Programme, Contact Plus, to visit their printmaking department. This was the culmination of a range of masterclass workshops that took place at BACA earlier this year where the students received specialist sessions on a range of printing processes including making collagraph templates and shin-collé from several undergraduates and their professional tutor. The students were shown how to create wood block carvings and then use the beautiful ornate presses (some of which were over two hundred years old).
After lunch, the students were given a VIP guided tour of the Degree Show in the vast Grand Parade site. It was exciting to see all the different outcomes from Fine Art Painting, Moving Image, Fashion, Sculpture and Photography. All the students picked their favourites and we were even treated to some performance art by a couple of our bravest students.
On the whole, the experience was a great success and the new knowledge should translate into some excellent outcomes in our GCSE work as they move on to year 11. A massive thanks to Melissa and Anna at the University for organising the event and we will look forward to working with them again in future.
