East Brighton Trust grant supports development of BACA’s bike club

This summer East Brighton Trust awarded over £21,000 in local grants to good causes in East Brighton and BACA was delighted to be one of them!  We received funding to develop our bike club, with the aim to introduce a monthly local community ride and bike maintenance workshop. The funding, which is for the next three years, will go towards the cost of having our very own biking lead, Iain Wilson, who started provisional work with a selection of students last summer term and ran the Biker Adventure strand as part of our two week summer school programme for new year 7 students.

The bike club, led by Iain and supported by a number of BACA staff, will run every Wednesday from 2.30pm to 4.00pm and is open to ALL students at BACA.  For those interested in joining who do not own their own bikes, we have a number of BACA bikes which can be used. The first bike club session will start on Wednesday 16th September, meet outside Pod 4.

Cycling at BACA

BACA will be applying for additional funding to continue to develop Iain’s work at BACA and to build a bike pump track on academy grounds using soil excavated from the current Cricket Pavilion build. If successful, the pump track will be a resource accessible to students and the wider community to develop their biking skills.
