BACA wins national award for Partnerships with the Wider Community

We are very proud to have received a national award from the Independent Academies Association (IAA) for Best Practice in Partnerships with the Wider Community.  The award was presented at the IAA Best Practice Awards 2014 on Thursday 9 October in London, and was sponsored by Farrer Barnes Limited.

The award recognises our community focused ethos and the partnerships we've developed with local community groups and members. The judges commended our work with the following statement:

"(BACA's) approach to Community Partnerships is impressive in terms of the breadth, depth, and scale of the activities.  The original prospectus for the very first City Academies emphasised their responsibility to help increase the efficacy of the community in which they were based.  This academy is achieving that aim through its community strategy, which is well embedded into their overall development plan... The continuation of a Community Manager post is testament to the seriousness with which it approaches partnership working, which in turn impacts positively on the learning and personal development of students past and present."

Our Principal, Dylan Davies, is extremely pleased BACA won the award and says “I am thrilled with this award.  Working with the local community is a central focus for BACA and it’s great to see this being recognised at national level.  We’ve developed some exciting and innovative partnerships already and look forward to further developing these and working with new groups and individuals in the future.

Natasha Silsby, Community Manager at BACA, is very proud that our work with the local community is being recognised at the national level, she says “Connecting with our local community is very important to BACA. We’ve developed some fantastic partnerships over the past few years and it’s been a real pleasure to work with such a variety of passionate community members. A huge thank you goes out to all of these partners for their support and contribution; they enabled us to win this outstanding award.  These partnerships help our students grow as individuals, develop their social awareness and start to give back to the areas in which they live.”
