BACA Students Destined For Oxbridge Success

BACA Students Destined For Oxbridge Success

We are pleased to report that two former BACA students have secured provisional places at both Oxford and Cambridge Universities for 2021.

Sermed Ghouri and Amanda Kangai, who both left BACA in 2019, have been offered places to read Physics and Engineering at Oxford and Cambridge respectively.

Sermed follows the success of his older brother Hummd, who has himself pursued a university-based career since leaving BACA in 2017, and achieved ten higher grades including additional studies in Triple Science which he completed during Saturday study sessions whilst he was in years 9 and 10.

Amanda, who gained 13 higher grades at GCSE, including a self-studied course in Economics, has been offered a provisional place at one of Cambridge’s oldest colleges- Gonville & Caius- following in the footsteps of such distinguished scientists including James Chadwick who discovered the neutron and Francis Crick who helped formulate the structure of DNA.

Both students are extremely happy with their provisional places at such world-renowned universities; Sermed commented that “I owe so much of my success to the teachers at BACA […] who helped me a lot more than I could have possibly imagined”.

Principal Bob Speight commented: “it’s one of the great privileges as a school leader to see your students enter university education, but in this case the achievements of both Amanda and Sermed are beyond exceptional - I am immensely proud of all they have achieved so far and wish them the very best for their future studies.”
