ACA Cricketers take on Charterhouse & win by 63 runs
The Aldridge Cricket Academy (ACA) played against Charterhouse on Tuesday 9 June and were victorious by 63 runs.
Charterhouse hosted the fixture on their main square which is possibly one of the most picturesque school grounds in the country. Having been established over 400 years ago, Charterhouse has a rich tradition of academic and sporting success and the newly formed Aldridge Cricket Academy thoroughly enjoyed the experience of playing against such a prestigious side.
ACA batted first and openers, Bryce Hounsome and Tom Haynes set about building a solid platform. Hounsome fell for 18 but Haynes carried on for an innings of 74 runs which allowed Aaron Tugnutt, Adam Pye and Josh Bourne to play expansive knocks and take the side to 193-3 runs off 40 overs.
In reply, the Charterhouse innings began with a wide but Jamie Piper soon made up for this by removing two stumps with his very next ball. Freddie Garth also made the most of the new ball with three quick wickets and Charterhouse were then always on the back foot. The opening bowlers were followed up with a tight spell from Tara Norris (conceding just 14 runs off her 6 overs) and Josh Bourne. Some good catches, notably an impressive caught behind from stand in keeper Tugnutt and an excellent grab at mid off from Jonny Lock helped to secure victory. Piper finished with 4 wickets and Garth 3 for 19.
The match was a great success and we hope to repeat the fixture in the coming seasons. ACA take on Ardingly College on 1 July in their next independent school encounter.
