Welcome to BACA Evening for Year 5

Welcome to BACA Evening for Year 5

Welcome to BACA Afternoon - Wednesday 17 July, 4.30pm - 6.00pm

As the end of Year 5 rapidly approaches, I am sure you will be thinking about the important choices that you have ahead regarding your child’s secondary education.  Brighton & Hove has many good secondary schools for families to choose from.  Each school has a distinct offer and ethos and I would strongly recommend considering a range of schools before deciding which is the right school for your son or daughter.

The Ofsted inspection carried out in November 2016 rated BACA as good in all areas and quoted:

  • ‘All members of the school community are encouraged to have high aspirations’
  • ‘Teaching is skilful and planned well’
  • ‘Careers education starts in Year 7 and its success can be seen in Year 11 destination figures’
  • ‘The vast majority of pupils and students enjoy school life and the rich extracurricular

 activities on offer’

  • ‘Their behaviour is considerate and they work hard and learn well’
  • ‘The care, guidance and support for pupils well-being and safety are outstanding’
  • ‘Vulnerable pupils are nurtured and receive sensible and constructive advice’

We run a transition programme designed to ensure that by the time students start in Year 7, they are familiar with the facilities, staff and many of the students at BACA, so they feel confident and ready to  thrive at secondary school.  As part of this programme, I am delighted to invite Year 5 Students, Parents and Carers to our Welcome to BACA Evening on Wednesday 17 July from 4.30pm - 6.00pm.

The event is an opportunity to visit BACA, meet key members of staff and to participate in a workshop aimed at get to know the academy and what we have to offer.

The event starts with a talk from 4.30 - 4.45pm, followed by a selection of workshops from 4.45 - 5.30pm. There will then be the opportunity to tour the site, speak informally to staff and students about the academy and ask any questions you have.

Workshops on offer:

  • Art - create an artwork using polytile printing
  • Creative Media - direct or star in a short film
  • Design Technology - bring your designs to life with 3D printing
  • Drama - team building games and activities
  • Music - compose a film soundtrack
  • Science - fun with chemicals!

A full Open Evening in the autumn will take place on Tuesday 1 October from 5.00pm - 8.00pm.  All visits are welcome from prospective parents and students on a flexible basis throughout the year.  Your children may also be visiting us with their primary school class or be taking part in our Athletics Super Sixes events.
