Mr Smith - Fixtures Update

Sussex Schools Cross Country Championships

On 28 February, our Year 7 Cross Country squad travelled to Christ's Hospital School in Horsham for the Sussex Schools Cross Country Championships.  Our students demonstrated high levels of effort and dedication to complete the highly competitive race, other entrants were from independent schools from across Sussex.

The performer of the day was Raphael R who finished in 4th place.  This is a fantastic achievement considering there were over 200 athletes competing in the Year 7 race.  Raphael has now been selected to compete for Sussex at the Inter Counties Championships on Saturday 23 March, taking place at again at Christ's Hospital School.  We wish him the best of luck!

Well done to all the BACA athletes.

Year 8 Boys Football

Last week saw an extremely busy week for our Key Stage 3 Footballers.  On Tuesday, our Year 8s took on a strong Dorothy Stringer team. With only two available Year 8 students, ten Year 7s were able to step up in to the Year above.  A tight first ten minutes was followed by a flurry of goals. An own goal, Bonner penalty as well as a double from Alfie and a goal from Corbin saw BACA win the game 5-2.  Fantastic result.

Year 7 Boys & Girls Football

On Thursday our Year 7s played an excellent PACA team.  With an ex Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper, scoring goals was always going to be difficult.  A fantastic solo run by the PACA midfielder saw PACA take the lead 1-0.  BACA responded early in the second half with a goal from Day.  The second half saw PACA make their dominance count and saw a spirited BACA side go down 4-1.

Friday, Year 7s were once again back in action, this time against Dorothy Stringer's Year 7s.  Our third game in four days looked to have taken its toll in the opening five minutes but BACA then asserted their dominance.  A brilliant second half performance with Day (x2), Mthunzi, Dunn and a thunderbolt from Harvey saw BACA win the game 5-2.

Year 7 Rugby

Thursday was a good day for BACA when our Year 7 rugby team joined forces with PACA for a Brighton and Hove Schools rugby tournament.  The team displayed two fantastic performances to beat Cardinal Newman and Patcham by 20-5 in both games.  The team was expertly led by Connor D with some great performances by Callan P, Mason F and Harley P. Bobby B, scored four tries in the tournament and was awarded Man of the Match for both games.

After a slow start BACA found themselves a goal behind in the opening minutes to a very strong Cardinal Newman team.  Just before the half time whistle, a fantastic free kick from Harley Pettit saw the boys draw level and a goal just before the break from Alfie Day saw BACA take a deserved lead into the half time break.  BACA conceded an equaliser just after the restart but showed great teamwork and spirit to eventually win the game 4-3 with goals coming from Pettit and Quaye to seal the win. Mr Dollner - BHTFC/Aldridge Football Academy vs Dorking Win 3 - 1 (21 September 2018)

Aldridge Football Academy (AFA) compete in the B division in the highly competitive league national league for the under 19 alliance. This is the Academy's second season at this level and we have a stronger, more experienced team this season; with more and more students signing up through open evenings and our link with our partner club, Burgess Hill Town F.C. (BHTFC). The team played at Dorking's new Meadowbank Stadium on their new 3G pitch.

Playing some neat and crisp football, they showed they were the better team for the opening 20 minutes. On the half hour mark, by the long ball, Dorking showed us they were capable of breaking our lines. However, on 40+ minutes, AFA took the lead with our first goal from Jay (PACA) and went into the half time break 1-0 up. Within 10 minutes of the second half, we were up 3-0 and effectively in total control of the game. Harrison (BACA) got our second goal and Jay got our third, his second, via a good header.

We probably took our foot off the pedal too early and allowed Dorking into the game to score and with 15 minutes of the match to go, putting on the pressure, but we rode that small storm and came out victorious with a 3-1. Teams that compete in the league alongside Aldridge Football Academy are Bromley, Dartford, Dorking, Dover, Eastbourne Borough, Ebbsfleet, Hastings, Maidstone, Sutton, Tonbridge & Whyteleafe and although they are tough teams, a win on the first game not only means we are 3 points up, but this is a great confidence boost as we prepare to face Dover in our next game.
