BACA’s Rockschool takes to the stage

Year 11 Rockschool performers planned and staged their own end of year gig on Friday 12 May to a packed out hall.  The students took ownership for every aspect of the performance from planning and organising the event, to promoting to family, staff and fellow students and rehearsing and performing on the day.

The performance was well attended, and a roaring success with audience members clapping, dancing and cheering along with the songs. One band member’s grandmother even flew from Spain especially for the occasion!

The gig included the students’ renditions of Wherever You Will Go, Valerie and Pumped Up Kicks among other well known hits. Through this event the students completed the live performance requirement for their coursework, as well as developing entrepreneurship and teamwork skills and deepening their passion for music.

An audience member commented, ‘The professionalism was outstanding. You all carried yourself so well. Even when one of the students struggled at the start you started getting the audience clapping to the beat to encourage him. Outstanding teamwork.’

Well done to everyone involved, including Emily and Carys who took care of lights and sound for the show.

Mr Peterson, part of BACA's music team, is also taking to the stage this weekend as part of the Great Escape Festival in Brighton.  You can see him interviewed here in an ITV news piece about the festival (he features starting from 1min 22sec into the video). BACA wishes him the best of luck!
