Brighton Aldridge Community Academy

Principal's Welcome

Principal Dylan Davies

Welcome to Brighton Aldridge Community Academy (BACA), a vibrant 11-18 all-inclusive secondary school and College, providing students with a stimulating and progressive education.

We are a high-achieving academy with a rich academic offering.  We believe that anything is possible and encourage a combination of our entrepreneurial ethos, specialism in sports and technological focus to raise standards, whilst developing key skills that each student needs to achieve success in the 21st century.

Brighton Aldridge Community Academy offers you an incredibly exciting future, having made rapid progress in recent years.  Students and staff celebrated exam success this past summer with 58% of students securing grades of 9-4 in English and Maths. Mathematics grades were at a record high (when compared to previous A*-C) with 63% of students receiving grades of 9-4. The number of students securing English grades 9-4 was 68%, well above this year’s national average. Additionally, at the start of 2017 Ofsted rated BACA as ‘Good’ and said ‘the care, guidance and support for pupils’ well-being and safety are outstanding’.

In March 2016, BACA students voted to decide on which local projects should receive a Pegasus Award of up to £500.  A steering group of students worked with mentors from Lloyds Banking to develop a way to responsibly distribute £4,500 to local good causes.  The students selected 9 projects and will track their progress throughout the year.

We are delighted Brighton Digital Media Academy won the Academy in Partnership Award in July 2016.  This award acknowledges the innovative partnership BDMA has created with digital media companies and the bespoke curriculum provision and opportunities BDMA offers students. Well done to all staff and students involved with the BDMA, all their hard work has led to great success and an award which is very well deserved.

We now have our state-of-the-art Sir Rod Aldridge Cricket Centre.  The Cricket Centre will provide dedicated training and playing facilities, enabling students to develop their cricketing talent and will also help to promote and maintain fitness.  This specialist, sector leading cricket centre provides: three lanes of cricket nets with full run ups, full service gym for strength and conditioning, and a Sussex Premier League standard cricket square.

We have impressive modern facilities, expanding range of offers, a rapidly growing college and a dynamic leadership team. We pride ourselves on providing an outstanding and flexible learning environment for students of all abilities to believe they can be the best.

I warmly welcome you to BACA and wish you every success within the Academy.

Mr Dylan Davies, Principal
